Prospecting and Soil Sampling
Prospecting is a hands-on field activity that involves traversing the landscape to seek visual indicators of mineralization such as gossans, alteration, staining, or veining. This can lead to the discovery of new mineral occurrences, particularly in areas of recently exposed outcrop (i.e., road cuts or glacial recession).
Soil Sampling is a method used in mineral exploration to gather information about the subsurface. It involves the systematic collection and analysis of soil samples across a specific area, providing valuable assay data that can help identify subsurface mineralization. This process can potentially reveal buried mineralization in areas where bedrock is not directly visible.
Both prospecting and soil sampling are integral parts of the exploratory process. They guide subsequent exploration efforts, directing focus towards areas of potential mineralization.
